I saw two firetrucks go across the bridge soon after this video was taken. Doesn't Park Point have it's own fire department? A house could burn down while they are waiting for the bridge to lower!
Ken, Park Point no longer has a fire house on the Point. The city relies on well coordinated communications for emergency operations.
I've seen ships have to turn around and detour because of an emergency on the point. IT doesn't happen often but have seen it. But have never seen the emergency vehicles have to wait for the bridge. YET.
I live in the midst of 3 small communities in SW Wisconsin, each in the range of 300 to 500 population, that have a fire dept. so it just seems odd to me that Park Point discontinued theirs. I don't know what the population of PP is but it's got to have a better tax base than the poor dairy farmers in my area.
Found some news articles on the subject, this one explains things good (if I am able to add a link here): http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/content/out-service-park-point-fire-station-close-sundayThanks, Dennis!
