The Red Sea

No, you are not in the Middle East.  The red water that you see is from the red clay from surrounding hillsides, especially Northern Wisconsin, that has been washed into the St. Louis and Nemadji Rivers rivers.
It will gradually clear up over the next few weeks.

The weather over Lake Superior has been more then a little unsettled the past two days.
This video from the Inner Harbor Cam shows just how unsettled it has been.   Beauty in motion!

Governor Dayton released the following this morning on the flooding in Duluth:

This morning my thoughts are with our friends and neighbors in Duluth and the surrounding region, as they respond to major flooding. I have spoken to Duluth Mayor Don Ness and have offered all possible state assistance now and during the recovery. I will travel to Duluth tomorrow morning to discuss further how the state can help.

Emergency crews are working hard to ensure public safety, while they begin the cleanup process. If you live or were planning to travel in the Duluth area, please follow their requests to stay off of affected roads and highways. Parts of Interstate 35 and Highway 23 are presently closed, as well as various local roads and streets. Please stay safe and allow the emergency crews to do their work.

State of Emergency in Duluth!

Duluth is under a State of Emergency due to continued heavy rain.
This picture is Grandmas' Restaurant at Miller Hill Mall.
Half of the Fon-du-Lac area is evacuated and under water.  The animals that escaped from the zoo, including a polar bear, have been rounded up.
Heavy rain continues!

High Water in the Northland

Heavy rains  over night left many roads impassible in the Duluth and North Shore area.  When I headed out to take more pictures, I found that I wasn't going anywhere soon, as the only road out was flooded with a surprised  motorist watching his car straddle a washed out road.

Pink Sky in the Morning - Sailors Take Warning, or so the saying goes.

Rainbows do not appear at 5AM very often, but, this morning was an exception as an approaching storm system triggered an amazing double rainbow over Caribou Lake for 5 minutes before it fading into the clouds.
