With the ice cover in the Duluth Harbor breaking up rapidly, the canal is a great place to watch Spring arrive. You will also see an example of the Lake Superior Seiche as the ice flow reverses and than resumes it's flow. You can read more about the seiche here: http://www.seagrant.umn.edu/newsletter/2008/12/readers_want_to_know.html
Thanks Dennis. This was great fun to watch. Now I know it's not just my imagination that sometimes the lake flows out and sometimes it flows in. And the people of Duluth - they are so robust and healthy, walking so quickly everywhere they go. Good for them. -deb
Calming, maybe a bit hypnotic, watching the ice flow in and out....thanks, Dennis. Grammie Pat, West St. Paul, MN

ReplyDeleteAny word on when we can expect the 2020 shipping season to commence? This would be a great time to watch the boats with so many people stuck at home.
