  1. Good to see this video of a different kind of vessel--had seen the Spartan tug/barge occasionally on the interactive map, but not up close... and I could actually make out most of what the Canal Park announcer was saying. Am watching live now on the Two Harbors Depot Cam as she passes out on the lake behind the at-anchor Radcliffe Latimer (approx.4pm 5/4). Grammie Pat, West St. Paul, MN

    1. Spartan normally carries Calcium Chloride, Salt water for the Minnesota DOT. It's what they use to keep dust down at construction sites, and dirt roads ect

  3. Kinda shocked they came in thru the Duluth piers. Nice looking setup there. Used to them coming in thru Superior

  4. They usually deliver calcium chloride solution, used for pre-treating winter roadways up north, here. Andrie shipping & towing company out of Muskegon, MI has had this contract from Occidental Chemical, Inc. for several years. They recently replaced the venerable barge "Salty Dog", which came here for many years. They delivery to the Hallett dock #8, up river on the Superior side, where they have a small tank for liquid storage. City, state, county and private trucks load-up there and hit the roads in the winter.

  5. The Spartan is a chemical tanker. Can't tell you what they are hauling now, but in the past I know they've hauled brine.
