Well it took me awhile online to find out this statue dates from 1970 and was intended as a memorial to the Edmund Fitzgerald crew, plus the crews of all ships that have sunk on Lake Superior.
Denny, do you know what those large round things he is holding represent?
My husband John Frank Leino, Atty wrote the inscription for the Seaman's Memorial on Barkers Island. He was from Brule, Wisconsin and he wrote the inscription in the late 70's NOT 1970.
Inspiring! Thanks Dennis.

It looks like a rope!
DeleteJust looked up the history of the Edmund Fitzgerald, the crew and sinking. Can't imagine how rough it must have been to sink a ship that was so large.
