Two Harbors Ice Fishing/Breaking

These two fishermen (perhaps Sven and Ole) are the most determines guys that I have seen on the cams.  Saturday morning, after chopping a place for their boat, the two were finally able to launch and break their way free onto Lake Superior.

They returned six hours later.

A good example of ice fishing and breaking when needed.

  3. Now That's Entertainment! Watching those two chop through the ice, one with a spud bar and the other with a sledge makes me think they REALLY love fishing. It looks like smooth sailing when the vid ends, yet they still had to get out almost to the lighthouse before clear water. What a ride. Thanks Dennis.

  4. Not a life jacket among them. Lucky fools.

    1. Actually, the "captain" of the boat had his "first mate" bring him a life jacket before parking the truck and trailer.

  5. Laurel and Garfield or Abbott and Costello maybe. Good laugh at determined individuals. Thanks for sharing.

  6. The video only shows their 2nd attempt. They backed the boat in, and after much work trying to break ice, they pulled the boat back out. I figured that they decided it was a lost cause. But no, they immediately backed the boat back in, that's where the video starts.

  7. On their first attempt while pulling the boat out the driver of the truck hits the brakes too hard and the captain who was standing in the boat is thrown to the floor

  8. Reminds me of this other fellow who every week pulls his boat in, backs the truck and trailer in, pops the hood on his truck, winches up his boat, then goes and connects power cables to the battery on his truck.

  9. On Sunday I watched 3 people in a small 14ft fishing boat re-chop and leave in the path left by these guys.

  10. I was watching this event as it happened, from my home in Southern California. I'm a harbor cam junkie. I HOPED that you would post video of this event as it was quite entertaining to watch and I wanted to share it. So THANK YOU for posting the video.

  11. Thanks for posting Dennis! I watch these two for a while Saturday but had to quit because they made me nervous! I had visions of this ending badly! Lol! Glad they came back ok! Hope they caught some! I'm not a fisherman. Love to eat fish but I catch them already cleaned and fileted! Hahaha! Grew up in Lorain, Ohio in early life so have always had interest in the big boats and the lakes. Keep up the good work Dennis!

  12. Thanks for the laugh. The capper is the lady at the end sitting down to watch these crazy (guys) break ice to open water.

  13. To Minnesotans fishing is a religion. The rest of the world thinks we are nuts. Good luck fisherman.
