Merry Christmas and a Happy Year to you as well. I witnessed the Philip R. Clarke leaving Duluth the other day at 0240 via the cams and heard the ship's whistle. But was also wonderful to hear was shouting of the crew members yelling at the top of their voices to the lift bridge operator, "Merry Christmas". Thank God for our freedoms!
Love the site and thanks for all you have done to make it possible. As far as the Marine traffic map at the bottom it used to work but has now quit, there are no ships showing their location. If I click on the link at the bottom of the map and go to their site it works fine. What could be wrong? Thanks
There are golden eye whistlers and a few mallards. The whistlers are a diving duck that comes down from the Arctic to winter here. From what I understand they eat algae around the canal tastes rather good. I haven't tried it yet. I guess a never thought of Duluth as being a wintering area, but, nice to know.
I've been noticing them also on the webcam and wondered what they were. One day a bunch were sitting on an ice chunk floating down the canal and noticed people throwing food to them like they do the gulls.

You will probably need to clear your browser cache or try a different browser. It seems OK on this end.
ReplyDeleteIt appears there is a duck colony in the canal (black, grey?) swirling about in the wind and currents. Does anyone know the variety? Thank you!

ReplyDeleteAre there going to be New Year's fireworks and are any of the cameras going to be focused on them? Thank you for our window to Duluth, Dennis! :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the fireworks. I forgot to check.
