Welcome to Duluth Harbor Cam

Your Window to the Northland

How It Began

In 2006, I decided to share something special—the sweeping view of Duluth’s harbor from my hillside office. What started as a simple idea quickly grew into a community.

In the early days, a single image was uploaded to duluthharborcam.com every minute. It wasn’t fancy—but it connected people to the harbor, the ships, and the rhythm of Lake Superior.

As technology improved, I partnered with the Lake Superior Maritime Museum Association to expand the project. Together, we added new camera locations and increased coverage to five cameras, including Wisconsin Point and Two Harbors.

With the generous support of viewers from around the world, the network continued to grow. Cameras were added in Silver Bay and across additional Duluth harbor locations. In recent years, we expanded into the western harbor and Port Terminal areas, thanks to the local businesses that graciously host and support the equipment.

What began as one camera has become something much bigger.

Today

Today, Duluth Harbor Cam consists of nineteen live cameras providing continuous views of ships navigating the harbors of:
  • Duluth

  • Superior

  • Two Harbors

  • Silver Bay

You can also enjoy a live view of the iconic Split Rock Lighthouse.

While ship watching remains the heart of the Harbor Cams, there is so much more to experience—dramatic Lake Superior weather, wildlife along the shoreline, stunning sunrises, and the daily life of the Northland unfolding in real time.

A Community Effort

The Duluth Harbor Cam exists because of its community.

Viewers from around the world…
Dedicated volunteer chat moderators…
Camera operators…
Local businesses hosting camera locations…

And especially the Lake Superior Maritime Museum Association—the centerpiece of our shared mission: celebrating and sharing the maritime heritage and natural beauty of the Northland.

I am proud to share that I have donated the entire Duluth Harbor Cam operation to LSMMA, which is now the official owner and operator of Duluth Harbor Cam.

I will continue assisting with operations to ensure these cameras remain a reliable and inspiring window into this remarkable region.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

May the Harbor Cams continue to be your window to the Northland for many years to come.

Sincerely,
Dennis O’Hara
