I was watching it live. Unbelievable!
Watching this unfold live. Thanks for the updates.
Yeah, couldn't quite tell if they hit the wall when I was just watching live, looks like they're aground now...they were lost in the fog I guess. Grammie Pat, West St. Paul, MN
Wonder what caused him to hit break wall and not make the turn to line up with Bridge .
Thank you for keeping us posted on what is going on. I saw it happen. I didn't know what the ship was doing. It was definitely off course. I hope everything will be ok.
watching the American Spirit from our condo ~ never have seen a ship in this position.
Where are the tugs?
It's not as simple as "where are the tugs?" Coast Guard Marine Inspection Office would first come out. There would be a check to see if there was any pollution. The crew of the American Spirit would sound the ballast tanks to see if she was taking on water. After she meets all the criteria that says she can proceed, then she will. It costs thousands of dollars an hour to use tugs. Aren't going to request them before they need them.
Wonder what caused him to miss the turn for bridge and hit the break wall .. ?
I was watching that live, thanks to duluthharborcam. When it came into sight on the GLA cam i thought, seems awfully close to the cam.I didn,t think it actually hit the seawall, but with angle of camera i could be wrongBetter send captain your video of PResque Isle from last month. might make him feel a little better. How does this even happen
Is this a first and I feel for the captain. How embarrassing.
Hopefully it's nothing too serious, that storm came in just as they were in the harbor and enveloped them with fog. You can see the bow of the ship on South Pier Inn cam
No it didn’t, don’t spread things that are not true
Wow!! Watched the whole thing unfold live. How scary for those along the shore
I watched it happen. Bizarre. Bridge was up and the Spirit just missed the turn. Looks hard aground.
Any pictures of front?
AMERICAN VICTORY CAME CLOSE TO THE PEIR ALSO THIS MORNING
Was it wind related? Wow, thanks for the alert.
Holy smokes! How does something like that happen what with all todays technology in use?
I saw it happen on the GLA cam but didn't realized it actually hit! Looking for it on the news -- reminds me of the Paul Tregurtha hitting Bayfront Park a couple of years ago with people all over the place like this weekend with Grandma's Marathon!
I was just down there. They stopped short of hitting wall by about 30 feet.
Oh, no!! Hopefully no one was hurt!!
Looked like he lost front 360. Had no control of front
Yeah, I saw no evidence of any bow thruster use?
I was watching and didn't think it made contact either...
Thank goodness for not hitting the breakwall, and the lack of damage. I'm sad that it grounded, but perhaps the grounding limited the damages.
Good I am glad they didnt hit the wall. Thanks Dennis,
That storm came out of nowhere, blanketed the harbor with fog, couldn't even see on the harbor cam, perfect timing dropping the anchor
Do you have any idea when the tugs will be there? Thanks
From the traffic buoy to the bridge it was fairly clear. Lots of current running today because of all the rain. Dropping anchor and probably going full astern stopped her.
Are they not letting any ships enter, as I see the American Integrity outside the canal waiting? Sorry, if sounds like a dumb question. In CA, a 1/2 inch is plenty of room to squeeze though at 70 mph ;( Not me, but others...lol.
Can the boats that are waiting use the Superior entrance to reach Duluth piers? Anyone..
They can use the Superior entry.
No they closed the bridge hade to go around and use the Superior entry which was interesting there were tons of tree logs and debris in the entry and the water was like chocolate milk

September 4, 2014. https://shipwrecklog.com/log/2014/09/american-spirit/Sounds like this ship should not be in tight spaces in windy conditions. Thanks for the camera, Dennis. Do you have video of it happening or was it too foggy? Your video of American Victory leaving was spectacular! Not a surprise. Hope you can do something similar with this event. Thanks again, Dennis!
