Two Harbors Depot - the camera is online, however there are some network issues that are preventing me from accessing the camera, (without being there) to make some final adjustments.
Hoping to get back at it next week.
Harbor Hub - I will be upgrading some network equipment tomorrow , so, there may be some short outages to GLA, Harbor, Pier B, Hillside, Bayfront and Wisconsin Pt.
GLA Cam - I will be replacing the antenna radio that beams the signal from the aquarium to the hillside. If the weather warms up, I will be doing this the week of Nov 18. This will create an outage to the GLA cam of several hours.
Camera Streaming - Most of the cams of streaming from Youtube now. There are several that will continue to stream from Angelcam and some from both until their contract expires sometime in 2020. These cams are Silver Bay, Two Harbors, Canal, Bridge and Pier B.
2020 will be a test year for Youtube. So far the benefits are an ability to review back 12 hours, no timeout after an hour and lower streaming cost. I will review the process and migrate back to Angelcam if things don't work out. It could be that some cam stay on both, some stay on Angelcam and others only on Youtube -- the jury is still out, but there remains a lot of things to consider.
2020 Look Ahead - My focus in 2020 is to improve the streaming quality by strengthening the networks with upgraded switched, cables and routers including increasing connection speeds where economically feasible.
Note, there are many things that affect the quality of video that you get and I appreciate your patience while I stamp out the problems that pop up daily, including problems that I create myself.
Thank your for your fabulous support for this site, it's you that makes the difference.

ReplyDeleteThanks for all YOU do!!! These are amazing cameras!
ReplyDeleteI think the cams on YouTube are working much better than AngleCam. Thanks again for all your hard work providing so many of us with the best ship cams on the internet.
ReplyDeleteYour dedication is fantastic, love the cameras, first thing I tune into every morning. Thank you from Winnipeg.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind remarks. I love these views as much as you guys and I learn more about the technology to run the cams
ReplyDeleteevery day.
You are amazing, thanks for all you do :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update Dennis! Also thanks to you we can all enjoy bringing the beautiful live views of the boats, etc. I truly appreciated ALL your hard work and dedication on everything that you do with the cams and trying to get them to work there best. You brighten my days with the opportunity to the views that I enjoy watching so much!! Do be careful out there too now that the weather is a bit more challenging. Thank care.
ReplyDeleteYou do a great job on these cams. They are by far the best I have found around the lakes for boat watching (and I've done a lot of searching). Living in Indiana, this is my only link to the lakes and the boats. I personally liked the feeds pre-YouTube better (they load and have a crisper picture on my devices it seems). Either way though, I am grateful for your time and effort in providing these for us.
ReplyDeletethank you for all your time spent, would be kind of cool to have a cam looking up into st louis bay at some point
ReplyDeleteThank you Dennis for all the hard work - it's so great to be able to check in on all that is happening in the shipping world in Duluth and other camera locations. Also to see weather conditions too. Thank you from Sheboygan WI.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Don!The you tube cams are great and so far there has been no pausing and freezing up as with the Angel cam system. So far so good and Thanks for all your hard work.We land locked people think the cameras are great.Allows us to see things we wouldn't get to other wise.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have noticed with UTube versus Angelcam is that the UTube pops up right away. I have sat here watching an Angelcam black screen buffering, buffering, buffering wondering if the image will ever pop up especially with the Harbor cam @ night. To me the UTube seems bleary at first but then after a few seconds it clears up.

Thank you so much for all you do so we can see our daily fix of Lake Superior and all the ships!
ReplyDeleteI watch another cam on which several members of a chat mentioned being able to rewind 12 hours. I have an IPad and don’t seem to have this feature. Do you need the YouTube APP or is it only available to subscribers?

Appreciate all you do. And your core-faithful will be here no matter what. But I do especially love the 12-hour rewind for all those 11pm-8am happenings. It's also fun to watch the sun, moon and stars in time-lapse.
