What exactly is the Nathan S and what does it do? I have never seen it before.
https://freighterfreak.wordpress.com/2019/05/28/more-updates/QuoteAlso of note is that the tug Nathan S. will bring a spud barge to Duluth in the coming weeks, and will depart with a special cargo: the self-unloading boom of the former steamer American Victory, which has resided on the dock at Fraser Shipyards since the Victory departed for scrap. The boom will be brought to Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, where it will be refurbished and ultimately placed on the deck of the new River-class vessel being constructed for Interlake Steamship. The reuse of booms on various vessels is actually a rather common practice on the Lakes – for example, the LLT barge Ashtabula now uses a boom that once belonged to the Joseph H. Frantz. Actually looks like unloading boom parts, and if she's headed for sturgeon bay its likely for one of the ships there.
Great horn!! I seem to recall seeing a spot showing the Nathan on the Marine Traffic map the other day heading up the North Shore--to where? Some internet info states the Nathan is/was owned by a Chicago company in 2017, but since the paint scheme looks to be changed since then, maybe Nathan is a Lake Superior tug now? Love to see video of the tugs, Dennis... Grammie Pat, West St. Paul, MN
I see my question would've been answered before I posted if the almost-midnite comment on 6/12 had already been approved by the time I wrote my comment. It seems the time for approval of comments before posting is 24hrs, or does it vary--do you hafta do it yourself, Dennis? Just wondering. Grammie Pat
Due to the amount of spam I get in the comments, I must approve each one. I try and go through them twice a day.Not the best, but, better then nothing. Sorry!
All that extra work just makes me appreciate all the more that you do all this for us!! Grammie Pat
That actually was the self unloading boom from the American Victory. It's being brought to sturgeon bay for interlake's new build.
Of course, the new build I read about a while back.
