Wisconsin Pt Cam progress

Wiconsin Point Camera Update - The Wisconsin Point Camera needs to transmit the video signal 7 miles from the Superior Entry to the Harbor Hub (my hillside office).  I did some testing today with the first set of antenna's that I thought would work, since they have a 9 mine range.  In realilty I could only get them to reach as far as the Sky Harbor Airport which is 5 miles. So, I am going to try a pair of more powerful antenna's next and will keep you posted. I had a feeling it might turn out like this.

Below is a picture of one of the antenna's set up on a tripod for the first test.    The antenna appears larger then it really is (7in dia).  On the next pole over are the Bayfront Cam, Harbor Cam, Hillside Cam and an AIS antenna.

  1. Make it work buddy! Sent a little. Let me know if you need more!! Is that the Radisson to the left? My wife’s grandson is playing in the state hockey championships next week. We’re making the trip from western New York State and staying there. Plan trying to get good views of ones that are in layup.

  2. Yes, that is the Radisson, great view from the revolving restaurant on top. You will have a panorama view of the city and harbor. Good luck in the tourney.

    1. Thank You. While it's frustrating at times, I enjoy the learning process.

  4. Hi Dennis, Can't tell what polarization you are using but try both ends on Vertical and Horizontal polarization, sometimes it can make a difference depending on the path...Good luck...Neil

  6. This is what I was afraid of. How is your line of sight? Obviously you know your equipment, terrain and the math involved. I'm just curious. I'm just thinking with all the "stuff" in between the transmitter and receiver, a slight angle up might help.

  7. Blaise, I was standing on the ground when testing, so I'm sure there was a bunch of interference. We'll see what happens with the next test next week. I'm sure we'll get it going, I just don't want to be hanging over the canal when testing.

    1. Oh you're no fun, kidding. But would some sort of repeater be possible?

  8. Blaise, a repeater is a good idea. let's see how this next test goes. I have the camera programmed and ready.
It still may be a few weeks before the actual installation, so, I have a little time to play around.
