Question - for those who watched streaming video of the KOM today?

For those of you who watched the KOM arrive on the Canal cams:

  1. Did the video stream smoothly?
  2. Was the sound OK, including the Visitor Center announcements?
Please answer in the comments below.  I am still working on the performance of those two cameras and I need your input.

  1. There were still a few skips and I'm having a hard time hearing the announcements. I hope this helps.

  3. Noticed a few skips/freezes, but it's not the worst the internet has seen. Audio was there, but the voice sounded muffled. I was able to understand most of the announcement, but was straining to hear it even at high volume.

  4. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THIS SET UP! WE LOVE IT!
THE VIDEO WAS MOSTLY GOOD, HEARD THE SHIP AND BRIDGE HORN, THE ANNOUNCEMENT WAS NOT VERY CLEAR.
    THANKS AGAIN!

  5. The Bridge camera did better than the Canal camera, but both still had some skipping. The sound was muffled but understandable if turned up. Any possibility of plugging the sound directly to the museum P.A. system?

  6. Sound a bit muffled but better than the old system. Cam. did a bit of the stop & start but no real bad stoppages.

  7. I viewing both cameras at once until the ship went under the bridge then switched to just the bridge camera. I noticed when viewing both together the announcement was echoed and hard to understand but once I switched to just the one camera I could hear it much better. And I did notice the picture did freeze a bit

    1. A little late to the party here, but both cameras have microphones, so if you have both open and the sound on on both, it will echo. Turning the sound all the way down on one of them using the volume control in the lower right of the video window should solve that problem. :)

  8. Thanks all,
I'll check the sound. The reason that I do not have a direct line in from the announcements is that you would not hear the boat and bridge.

  9. There was a bad echo and pauses in the picture.

  10. I even get pauses on the other cameras too Dennis, but not always. Like when I'm watching late at night nothing seems to go wrong with the cameras. Like from 11 pm to 6 am your time.

  11. The best time to really determine if there's an issue with the camera is when there is no vessel activity. Ken, I find that the camera facing the bridge has the most problems with skipping and overall performance. This has been independently tested at my home and workplace, Google. My company provides our internal teams with the best internal infrastructure for Internet connectivity and speed, so I know it's not on our end.

Your ISP needs to address this issue. Don't let them tell you it's just your camera, which is most likely what's going to happen. It took my colleague less than three minutes to tell that it's your ISP. Trust me, he's probably a better expert than the top 10 people combined at your ISP.

    Cheers

  13. The sound seems much improved and the wind noise has diminished. The sound is unbroken even when the camera freezes. All of the cameras seem to have a problem with freezing, so I tend to believe the ISP comment above is probably true.

  14. The announcers need to speak more slowly, clearly, distinctly and louder. This would improve the overall performance of what they are trying to achieve.

    1. The announcements aren't for the webcams. They are for the visitors that are at the canal. They are clear and concise when you're there in person.
