Dennis, a silly question. Do freighters often get struck by lightening, and if so, is there much damage done? Judy in La Crosse.
These Lakers are frequently struck, but the high conductivity of the large quantities of metal, with hundreds of square yards of hull in direct contact with the water, causes rapid dissipation of the electrical charge". The boats are rarely damaged, and injuries or deaths are uncommon.
Thanks, Dennis. I knew I should have paid more attention in science class! Judy
The R. Bough and lightening are really fascinating! Thanks, Dennis.
I don't know why but I have always been fascinated with Lake Superior and the ships, especially in storms. Thank you for posting this incredible video!
