Friday, January 14, 2011 - Arrivals & Departures
Presque Isle arrive at 5:30
The last boat for the season came under the Duluth Lift Bridge this morning at 5:30 when the Presque Ilse arrived.

Due to repairs and painting of the south tower of the lift bridge, it is now closed until March 15th, when ice breaking will begin.

There will be a few more boats entering the harbor through the Superior Entry, but, essentially the season has ended for the webcams.

If you need a boat fix, feel free to visit the archives. If you want to watch the construction progress on the bridge, I will zoom on the work zone.

The cameras will remain on through the off season in order to view the beautiful Lake Superior sunrises and other activity in the winter city.

It has been a great shipping season and I hope you enjoyed watching the boat traffic as much as I did.  I plan on operating in 2011 and look forward to spring thaw, right around the corner.

Harbor Traffic for 1/4/2011

You will probably never see a 700 ft laker back through the the Duluth Shipping Canal, except for last night. Harbor ice is getting so difficult to maneuver through, that the captain of the Cason Callaway chose to back his boat through the harbor, under the Duluth Lift Bridge, through the ice filled canal in the dark of night.
An interesting feat to watch. Once out in Lake Superior, the Callaway motored over to the Superior Entry to load taconite at the BN facility.

Harbor Traffic for Monday 1/3/2011

To my fellow Harbor Watchers,
Well, I thought I would end the videos for this shipping season, however, after posting my intentions the other day, I received so many replies that I now understand how much others enjoy watching the boats on this site as much as I do.

With that said, and the fact that this is an interesting time of year to watch the few boats still struggling through the thick harbor ice. I'll keep posting the videos until the last boat comes in.

Through the Mist!

Through the icy mist of an arctic morning in Duluth, the Philip R. Clark shoves it's way through ice flows in the Duluth Shipping Canal.

At -10F, Sea smoke rises briskly off Lake Superior and a morning sunrise on the lake is a beauty to behold.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all the visitors to Duluth Harbor Cam.

With the arrival of January, the 2010 shipping season will soon come to and end. I hope you have enjoyed watching the live views of the Duluth Harbor and the videos of harbor traffic throughout the year.

Since harbor traffic has slowed down significantly, I will not be posting any new recordings until next season. Don't forget that you can go back in the archives and view last years boat traffic, day by day.

I hope to be able to keep operating in 2011 and hope you stop by for a visit occasionally.
If you have any recommendations for next year, please drop me a line at my email:

The live views of the harbor will continue during the off season.
