Lake Superior Fury - 10/27/17 3AM

Last Friday's storm was exceptional in that it lasted for nearly 9 hours. After reviewing the harborcam footage, it seemed to be exceptionally fierce about 3AM.

Here are a few minutes of video from the 3AM period.

The Aftermath!

The fierce storm today showed the raw power of the Lake Superior. Waves up to 18ft ripped parts of the Lakewalk apart, leaving boulders and gravel in place of the walkway.
I stopped down this afternoon to take look at the rollers still coming ashore.
Here is a gallery link to more photos.

Gales of November in progress!

10:00AM - Worst driving in a long time. I tried to get down to Canal Park, but, after sliding in my car sideways down 6th Ave W, I turned and went back home for awhile. Try again later.

08:00AM - major winter storm is rolling through the area with 50MPH winds, heavy snow above the hill and huge waves on Lake Superior.  We can expect possible camera outages this morning. All boats have taken shelter and will resume movement later today.

Took a trip up the North Shore for lunch today.  70 degrees.
I sent Bugsy up for a quick look at the Silver Bay boat launch area.  A beautifil area on a fantastic day. You can see the Great Lakes Trader in the distance.

Thanks You! Thank You! - Camera Fundraiser

A great big THANK YOU to all of you who donated to the camera streaming fundraiser.

Your generosity continues to amaze me.  We now have funds to cover the internet and streaming services through 2018.

I will be using this funds to pay the fees as they come through in the next few weeks.

We made our goal in two days--- WOW!

I will continue to do my best to keep our cameras operational.

Camera Fundraiser!

The purpose of the current camera fundraiser is to pay for the 2018 internet access and streaming service.

We currently have 9 cameras that cost 360/year to stream, plus internet service to the hillside location where there are currently five cameras accessing the web at a cost of $1080/yr.

So, having the internet services paid for 2018 (total $4320) will cover a significant part of our 2018 operating budget.  Additional camera projects and upgrades may require another fundraiser when the time comes.

Thank you so much for your support in this effort, visitors to this site are very generous, and every cent donated goes into operation and maintenance of our cameras.

Happy Boat Watching!

Palisade Head _ Silver Bay

Palisade Head is a massive rock outcrop that towers 300 feet above the waters of Lake Superior below.  The turnoff to the cliff is easy to miss just north of Silver Bay on Highway 61, but, worth checking out if you get up this way.
